Kas Stone

My photography is inspired by the wild scenery and moody weather of my home on Atlantic Canada’s coast. The appeal of this landscape is partly aesthetic, but also deeply rooted in my passion for outdoor adventure and my interest in geology and the natural environment.

Although my images begin as photographs, they often evolve far from their origins, digitally enhanced to draw out the landscape’s character. Sometimes the result is almost documentary; at other times it is happily unreal. My palette ranges from richly coloured to severely monochrome, and my perspective from sweeping vistas to intimate portraits of the smaller landscapes beneath our feet.

If a photograph reveals the soul of the photographer, then I leave it to you to interpret the recurring themes in mine: wide open spaces, big bodies of water, clouds, rocks, wind, waves, and freshly fallen snow.
